FIDM

I just have to vent. I am watching the season premiere of Project Runway (a couple days late) and they are at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I got accepted there right out of high school but couldn't afford tuition and well it stings a little bit. Sting.

Is there anything really big that you feel that you got left out of?

I graduated high school a year early and applied to only local, non-competitive colleges. I was the first in my family to earn a four-year degree and then go to grad school. We really didn't know what we were doing and the guidance counselor didn't seem to care what I did. It was strange and I still have issues with it.

I wish I had gotten going with grad school in my twenties. I'm now 30 and feel like I've lost steam. Maybe someday. What an honor that you got in there. No surprise there though. You seem fabulously talented!

My story is similar to yours, I worked so hard on my sketches, and I got accepted to FIDM and was talking to someone there who was excited and interested, until I said I would have a problem paying and asked for financial aid info, that person sent my application back with all my sketches and a note that said something about it not being the "right time" for me to go there, (read between the lines: we only want your money) I just threw the returned application in the trash, I was crushed. It definitely stung.

Thanks for sharing your stories. Now I don't feel as singled out. I keep crossing giant hurdles to put myself through college but even though it's been hard I feel like I am slowly getting somewhere.
